exercise 23 -- hooray!

I am absolutely stunned and quite proud of myself that I have finally finished! ( I must say with a huge amount of help and encouragement from my colleague Trevor.) To be honest, there has been much information that I have not understood but on the whole, it has been a worthwhile exercise if only for the fact that I now know what a blog is and will also be checking youtube every day for more fabulous music clips! YEEHAH!

exercise 22

This most certainly is "the end is in sight! How amazing all of this is - but I can't help wondering what will be left for libraries to provide! A changing world indeed.

exercise 21

I have watched a podcast tutorial - helpful because, as any person reading my blog will have realised by now, I am being dragged out of the ark regarding all things computer related! I liked the definition of a podcast as a radio show - simple and easy to understand. I checked 3 of the more popular podcast directories - podcast.net led to "unabellavista": How to tour Italy - from Michelangelo's smelly feet to today's Roman taxis - nothing's sacred it seems!

exercise 20

Loved this one! Had a look at youtube and found a fantastic clip of Billy Joel singing Piano Man on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ1_M_L_RSI

exercise 19

For this exercise, I selected from the short list of Web 2.0 awards nominees, choosing travel as a category. I explored "Farecast"' "Kayak" and "realtravel", all informative and potentially useful for travel planning.

exercise 18

After reading the glowing testimonies about google docs, am wondering if it would be a good system for streamlining the display and exhibition timetables at the library?

exercise 17

After scrolling down thru hundreds of favourite travel destinations, my wonderful mentor, Trevor, has just told me that one needs to be a staff member for that unpronouncable library in the States to be able to add to this site! Oh dear! I could have spent all that time working on the next exercise!

wikis - exercise 16

This has been a beneficial exercise for me to do. Trevor has shown me the benefits of wikis in Conference Planning and Procedure Manuals, but I am concerned with the possibility of incorrect information being added to wikipedia.

exercise 15

As to the future of libraries, let's just say that from my perspective, it's probably just as well that retirement is not far away!

technorati

In checking out Technorati, I tried to access the interview with "Miss Teen USA" which is apparently hysterically funny (or horribly depressing, depending on one's point of view). Unfortunately I was un able to view it, due to the Council blocking the youtube website. Not having much luck today!)

exercise 13

Unfortunately, I was unable to view the del.icio.us tutorial in this exercise, but have read the description of the benefits of social bookmarking.

exercise 12

A while ago, I ran a B&B just outside of Daylesford. It would have been wonderful to have had access to Rollyo, when relevant accommodation websites could have been banded together to find information.

exercise 11

There are obviously many benefits in using Library Thing, especially for passionate readers and for readers who may not have easy access to library facilities. e.g. book and discussion groups. However, let's hope that in the future, Library Thing does not replace Book Groups - we still need human interaction!

exercise 10

Disappointingly, I have tried 3 times to add URL for image generator. Could not get it to work - have posted photo below.

Exercise 8 - RSI (only jokin' RSS)

Today, I read about the wonders of RSS - what a fabulous, time saving device, particularly for people working in news related activities.

By the way, here's a blog that I found to be well written (as opposed to many) and interesting (as opposed to most) - http://www.libdex.com/weblogs.html

Hooray! Exercises 8 & 9 finished! Onwards and upwards!

Exercise 7 complete yay!

I cannot believe it! Last weekend in "The Age" I read about a new technology that is already making Flickr obsolete! And I knew what "Flickr" was! And I was actually interested - I even finished the article! Trevor says there's hope for me yet! (Am not so sure).
Gosh it's interesting to read about Karyn's adventures in New Guinea! What a fascinating time to be there! I suspect that Library Land will pale into insignificance!

I have just completed exercise 5 - this is a photo of one of my favourite villages on the Cinque Terre in Liguria, Italy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/brianechapman/311428108/

Hi! this is Megan's first blog. I have Fiona and Trevor helping as I am hopeless with computers! At least I have tired (and tried!)
